Marcy Kaplan, MSW, LCSW, Chief Executive Officer, came to TMCC in 2008 with over 20 years experience in the Los Angeles nonprofit sector. She served as the Executive Director of EmpowerTech from 2006-2008, and prior to that was the Director of the Los Angeles Family AIDS Network for sixteen years. A clinical social worker by training, Marcy earned her MSW from the University of Southern California. Professionally she focuses on increasing care and services for underserved populations and on developing partnerships and collaborations among nonprofit organizations, government entities, and school districts. Harold Young, MSW, LCSW, Clinical Director, has been with The Maple Counseling Center since 1985 and has been the Clinical Director since 1997. Harold received his Master’s in Social Welfare from UCLA and has nearly 30 years experience in the mental health field as a supervisor and a therapist. As Clinical Director he has oversight of all clinical staff, responsibility for all clinical programs, and supervises and trains interns in the theory and practice of psychotherapy. He has a private psychotherapy practice in Beverly Hills, where he works with adolescents, adults, and couples. Administrative ManagersJoyce Agyin-Agyemang, MA, Events Coordinator, responsible for TMCC’s fundraising activities and for providing support in all areas of development. Having completed her Master’s Program in Nonprofit Management at the American Jewish University, Los Angeles, Joyce is pursuing her MBA in this field of study. Prior to joining the staff in 2006, Joyce worked as a high school science teacher in Alabama and in the Quality Improvement/Utilization Review Department of a local psychiatric hospital. Mary Monreal, Administrative Manager at TMCC, where she oversees the front office and the clinical support staff. Prior to joining the organization in 1997, Mary worked in various administrative positions, including those in the City Manager's Office of the City of Santa Monica and the Jewish Federation Council of Greater Los Angeles. Bettye Woodruff, Finance Manager, responsible for overseeing all of the financial needs of TMCC, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll. Joining TMCC in 2008, Bettye brought 20 years of professional experience in accounting, finance, insurance, and human resources to her current position. Clinical StaffLorraine Rose, RN, PhD, Associate Clinical Director, oversees several programs at TMCC, including the Doctoral Training Program. In addition, she teaches couples therapy. Lorraine received her PhD from The California School of Professional Psychology. She maintains a private practice at locations in Beverly Hills and Malibu, where she specializes in treating adults and couples. Sara Hutter Borenstein, LMFT, is a Clinical Supervisor and Co-coordinator of the Adolescent and Child Therapy Program and Peer Counseling Program at Beverly Hills High School. She received her MS in Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling at California State University, Northridge. In addition to working at TMCC, Sara provides individual and group psychotherapy for children, adolescents, and adults in her private practice. Her specialties include grief work and play therapy. She has offices in West Los Angeles and Encino. Richard Dunn, PhD, LMFT, has been a Clinical Supervisor in TMCC's Adult Individual Psychotherapy Program since 1997. Richard received postdoctoral analytic training at the C.G. Jung Institute of Los Angeles. He is an Adjunct Faculty member at the Pacifica Graduate Institute, and formerly served as Co-Director of Training at Counseling West, located in Sherman Oaks. Richard has a private practice in Beverly Hills, working with adult individuals and couples. Jessica Anderen Herzog, PsyD, is the Program Coordinator of the Mindful Parenting Program. Jessica received her doctorate from California School of Professional Psychology-Los Angeles/Alliant University. She trained at TMCC as a pre- and postdoctoral intern and joined the staff in 2004. Jessica has a private practice in Beverly Hills, specializing in parenting consultation and children, postpartum adjustment, depressive and anxiety/panic disorders, and interpersonal relationship struggles. Lori Karny, LCSW, MSG, is a Clinical Supervisor and Coordinator of the Senior Peer Counseling Program. Lori completed her BA in literature at UCLA and Master’s Degrees in Social Work and Gerontology at USC. As Director of Women Helping Women Services at NCJW/LA for over 12 years, Lori developed clinical services to assist families in crisis. Lori maintains a psychotherapy private practice in Beverly Hills, working with adults, couples, groups, and families focusing on anxiety, depression, life transition, aging, relationships, and creativity. LuNel LeMieux, MEd, Coordinator of the Community Circle Program since it began in 1972, was an elementary grade counselor for 20 years in the Beverly Hills Unified School District. A special education teacher at UCLA’s Fernald School, she also served in this role with the BHUSD. She is a graduate of UCLA with a BA in Psychology and an MEd in Educational Psychology. LuNel has co-authored the book Joyful Volunteering - Together We Can. Her goal is to share the Community Circle Program with elementary schools throughout the greater Los Angeles area. Marc Sanders, PhD, is a Clinical Supervisor and Coordinator for TMCC's Group Therapy Programs. Marc received his master’s and doctoral degrees from The California School of Professional Psychology, San Diego, and is pursuing a doctoral degree and certification in psychoanalysis from the Los Angeles Institute and Society for Psychoanalytic Studies. Marc is a Clinical Psychologist in private practice in Beverly Hills, with special interest in grief and loss issues, trauma, anxiety and mood disorders, couples therapy, and psychoanalysis. Astrid Schwartz, LMFT, became a Clinical Supervisor at TMCC after completing her internship and becoming licensed in 1986. She has held many TMCC positions since that time and at present she coordinates the weekly in-service training curriculum and off-site supervisors for the interns. Her private practice has an emphasis on holocaust issues and transitions. Sharon Schwartz, PhD, is the Director of Child and Family Services and Assistant Clinical Director. Sharon received her PhD in Clinical Psychology from the Cambridge Graduate School of Psychology in Los Angeles. Prior to joining the staff at TMCC, Sharon was the Clinical Director for a Mental Health Partial Hospitalization Program. Sharon maintains a private practice specializing in work with adolescents, parenting consultation, and reproductive psychology. Carla Derhy-Snijders, PhD, is a Clinical Supervisor and Coordinator of the Intake and Assessment Program. Carla received her BA in Psychology and her MA in Clinical Psychology from Utrecht University, the Netherlands, and her PhD from California Graduate Institute. Carla maintains a private practice in Los Angeles, specializing in body dysmorphic disorder, trauma and anxiety disorders. She works with children, adolescents, families, couples, individual adults and groups. Susan Spiegel, PhD, LCSW, LMFT, is a Clinical Supervisor and Coordinator of the Adolescent and Child Treatment Program. Prior to joining the staff at TMCC, Susan provided clinical services to the Beverly Hills Unified School District and California Youth Homes. Currently, she is teaching in the Child Development Program at Reiss-Davis and has a private practice in Beverly Hills specializing in psychodynamic psychotherapy with adolescents, adults, and couples. Adrienne Meltzer Weise, MA, is the Supervisor of TMCC's Tutoring Program. Adrienne received her Master’s of Arts Degree with a double major in English, Theatre, and Secondary Education from Tufts University. Adrienne taught honors English in New Jersey, and for over 20 years has run TMCC’s Tutoring Program for students in grades K-8. This program is for those who need academic help and cannot afford private tutoring. Kevin Wittenberg, PhD, is a Clinical Supervisor in the Adult Program at TMCC. Kevin received his PhD from California Graduate Institute and is an advanced psychoanalytic candidate at the Los Angeles Institute and Society for Psychoanalytic Studies. Prior to becoming a staff supervisor at TMCC, Kevin was a staff supervisor at Children’s Institute International and Westside Children’s Center, as well as serving as a delegated supervisor at the Wright Institute, Valley Community Clinic, and TMCC. Kevin maintains a private practice in West Los Angeles, where he works with adults and adolescents.
