Volunteering at TMCC

Tutoring Program

The Tutoring Program has openings for volunteers to provide one-on-one assistance to children who need academic tutoring. Beverly Hills High School students are very welcome. A two hour per-week commitment is requested. Volunteers are assigned to work one hour a week with a child from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm  Tuesdays at Horace Mann Elementary School or Thursdays at Beverly Vista Elementary School. Follow-up sessions for tutors to share experiences, are held weekly after tutoring from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm. Please call Adrienne Weise at (310) 271-9999 x212.

“I like a lot of things about The Maple Counseling Center Tutoring Program. What I like the most is the love that’s around us all. The tutoring is a big inspiration to me. It is very helpful because the tutors are smart and kind. They have big hearts that open to their students. I do admit I will miss the tutoring because it has helped me raise my grade. But most of all I’ll miss my wonderful tutor Michelle.” Joyce – 6th grader

Community Circle Program

Adults who want to pass on the skills of good listening, better communication and empathy to school children can find a volunteer opportunity in the Community Circle Program. Please contact LuNel LeMieux at (310) 821-1975 for more information.

“My name is Kenton. I am 7 years old…I see Omi at Community Circle…we talk about feelings… I learned the importance of being kind. Having friends is very important to me…Omi and my Mom and my Dad tell me to never start a fight or hurt anyone. So I listen to them. I know that I have to care about other people. Different kinds of people make up our world.”
